Holiday Favorites!

Happy Christmas Eve Eve – LOL! Or happy other holiday you might celebrate at this time of year. I’ve finished shopping (finally!) and I’ve got all my closest family around, so it’s going to be a wonderful holiday.

So many folks have treasured holiday traditions wrapped up in favorite foods, goodies that bring back fond memories of holidays past, filled with love and laughter. One such recipe belonged to my great grandmother. My mom remembers this from her childhood, as do I. This is a great breakfast food, and it’s easy to make.

SOUR CREAM COFFEE CAKE
Batter:
1/4 lb butter (softened)
2 eggs
2 cups flour
1/4 cup milk
1 tsp baking powder
1 cup sour cream
1 tbs vanilla
Mix and beat for 3 minutes

Filing:
2 tsp cinnamon
4 tbs brown sugar
1 cup chopped pecans
3 tbs butter (melted on top of batter)

Grease tube or bundt pan well. Pour 1/2 batter in. Sprinkle on half of filling. Then pour the other half of the batter on the filling. Sprinkle remaining filling on top. Pour 3 tbs butter (melted) on top. Bake at 375 for 40-45 minutes. Enjoy warm, cold, reheated – even freeze and defrost. Great stuff!

2010 is just around the corner. If you’re looking forward to something new or resolving to try a new-to-you author, here’s a list of my current and upcoming titles:

I hope that you all have a great holiday season! Happy reading!

Catching Up!

Let’s see, I worked on INSIDE OUT all weekend long. Loving the chemistry here between Cope and Ella. Glad that’s working, LOL. I need to make major progress this week as my parents will be here next week and the kids are all off school as of Friday.

Various and sundry book stuff:

Over at Rhapsody I’m bundle priced! Coming Undone and Laid Bare sold together in hardback!

INSATIABLE is up for pre-order at Amazon!

TRINITY is finally available at the Kindle store – thanks to everyone who wrote in on my behalf!

You can pre-order COMING UNDONE for Kindle and for other e-readers via Books on Board

Apparently some of my EC titles -including Ascension, are now up at the Kindle store too. Love the wider exposure! (but you might want to check with the EC site directly for possible breaks in price). This has led to more questions about whether I’ll be writing more in my Cherchez Pack series and when they’ll be in print.

I always hesitate when I get asked this question. For years I’ve danced around it because I’m trying to stay professional. At this point, I’ll be blunt: I’ve asked over and over since the books came out (and Tri Mates too) when the books would go to print and no one ever wants to give me an answer. I wish I had other news, but in truth, I don’t. I’m not asking anymore, not because I don’t want to see them in print, but because I’ve deemed any further communications on the matter to be a waste of my time.

I love the world and those characters quite a bit, but I don’t know if I’ll have the time to write Skye’s story any time soon given my current schedule and the problematic nature of having later books in print and the first two “I don’t know”

Haven’t been able to read much other than my own work lately – but I’m hoping that’ll change over the break. My TBR pile(s) is huge so I need to get it down a little before even more great books come out in January!

Widget Me

Are you a widgety-sort of person?

I want a widget.

But the problem is when I start messing with widgets, I spend way too much time on them.  Plus, I’m not particularly good at them.

So…. maybe somebody else can widget me.  I want a widget for my romantic suspense BROKEN, due out in March 2, 2010.

Would you like to make me a widget and get entered into a contest for an ARC of BROKEN?    If so… make me a widget.  If you want to design the widget using something like sprout (or similiar) that’s fine.  I just want something I can post to facebook, myspace… *G*  If you are graphically skilled and make a widget that would post to this wordpress blog, that would be even better.  Because I really want one I can post to the blog and a lot of widgets don’t post at wordpress blogs.

I would like the widget to have the cover, a link to the excerpt ( http://shilohwalker.com/excerpt_broken.htm ) and if possible, the release date (3.2.10) or a countdown.

Post a link on where I can find the widget.  Then you get entered for a chance to win an ARC of BROKEN, due out in March.

Blurb: (In case you might wanna use…)

Shattered
Quinn Rafferty is working as a bounty hunter and bail bondsman in St. Louis when a new neighbor catches his eye. He’s tempted by her beauty—but he knows from experience that anyone desperate enough to live in his building is damaged goods. Besides, he has his own soul to mend before he can worry about anyone else.

Desperate
Sarah McElya is on the run, but not for the usual reasons a woman goes on the lam. She’s not an abused wife, and she’s not a criminal. But she does have a plan for her future. And as much as she finds herself attracted to her gruff, tough neighbor, she can’t risk telling him the secrets she’s hiding. There’s just too much at stake.
Driven to desire…
But Quinn must get closer to Sarah when she turns out to be the target of his new missing persons case, and he discovers that there is something more complex and dangerous to her than he thought. Now, both Quinn and Sarah will have to expose their true feelings—as well as their fragile hearts—if they hope their love will survive…

Broken

Here’s a link to a larger version of the cover...

As I’m wigdgetally-disadvantaged and this is actually helping me out, there aren’t too many rules with this one…you can make multiple widgets if you like.

I’ll choose the one I like best.  The only rule is that I do ask the winner keep the ARC is his/her possession until the book is released and that you agree to respect author copyright by not scanning/uploading a digitalized copy to a filesharing site, etc.

For those who aren’t widgety-inclined, I’ll try to do a more general contest closer to the release date. 🙂  Thank you!

A simply stunning cover

Just yesterday I got the cover for my first Berkley book, UNBRIDLED. This is not only my first Berkley book, but it’s also the first contemporary erotic romance single title I’ve published.

I am absolutely in love! Look at this simply stunning cover…

Here is the blurb:

Hell hath no fury like Alex Finley…

For as long as Alex could remember, life had taken everything from her. Her father had abandoned her and her dying mother, only to return upon her death to reclaim the family’s Wyoming ranch–with a new wife. Alex’s rage drove her away to Los Angeles to live with a man who could never satisfy her.

Only after ten years does she come home–and she hits the town with a vengeance, unleashing her pent-up lust on willing cowpoke Connor Matthews. But she’s in for several shocks. It turns out that the ranch is now a resort, that her late father split the estate between Alex and her young step-brother, and that Connor–the bucking bronco she wants in her bed–is running the place.

Now, Alex is torn between accepting a new family, and a lover who can give her everything she needs–or selling out to a smooth-talking neighbor and leaving the past behind her. But only when her life is on the line does she realize what she desires most of all…

It releases July 6, 2010 – Can’t believe I’ll be wishing for the next 7 months to go by fast. LOL. 🙂

Hunter's Need…now available

Hunter's Need

I’ve posted the first chapter in its entirety at Scribd. You can read it here.

On Wednesday, 12/2, there’s a launch party @ bitten by books and you can enter to win book $$$.

Here’s one last, little excerpt from Hunter’s Need, and I’ve gotta admit…it’s one of my favorite scenes.

“I gave you your answer, Ana. Can’t you answer mine?”

I love you. She wanted to tell him, wanted to throw her arms around his neck and tell him, over and over. But she held back. This wasn’t right. Wasn’t good, not for him. Even back when she let herself daydream about having Duke in her life, she’d known it wasn’t right. Duke deserved better than her. He deserved so much more.

“This isn’t good for you.” She blurted the words out before she lost her nerve. Pulling away from him, she jerked her shirt back up but her hands shook too much to button it. Instead, she just held it closed between her breasts. “This is bad for you. I’m bad for you. You’ve got to know that. Even if you…even if you think you feel how you’re saying, you have to know I’m bad for you. I’m not the kind of woman you need in your life, Duke. I’m not strong enough. You need somebody strong. Somebody more like you—”

Duke reached out and hooked his hand in the front of her jeans, gently. She resisted. He jerked harder and she crashed into his chest with a startled, “Ooommph.”

“I know what I need,” he growled. When she would have argued, he covered her lips with his finger. “I know what I want, what I need. And it’s you, Ana. If I wanted somebody like me, I would have gone chasing after Kendall or half a dozen other women that I’ve met. I didn’t go after them, because I was too hung up on you and I have been, from the first damn time I laid eyes on you. I love you. I want you. I need you.”

“But—”

He cut her words off with a hard, short kiss. “Don’t want to hear it,” he snarled. “I love you. You don’t get the right to tell me what I need, or what I deserve. That’s my call, princess. Now give me an answer—do you love me?”
